Two Approaches to Making the Most of Your Online Dating Websites

Are you new to the whole field of using online dating websites? You mustn't think that you're the only one. Starting out in online dating, the first thing you need to do is to find yourself a method that will help you sort through the dozens profiles that stare you in the face each day. Some people just pull random profiles and hope that they'll find the right one. Others try a more systematic approach to try to screen out the profiles that are least likely to satisfy. There is no one method that works for everyone. Let's look at both kinds of method to see which one will work best for you.

If you have been out of the dating game for quite a while, you might find that the random method works a lot better for you. It'll help you break rigid patterns of whom you will allow yourself to date. Going random, you're likely to find people that you used to dismiss for no reason before. So how do you do this? What you need to do first is to make up your mind about what it is you consider to be a dealbreaker in a relationship. These are the qualities in a person that you simply cannot tolerate. Once you make up your mind about what you can't tolerate, you'll have to leave yourself open to trying everything else. Online dating websites give you filters to help you screen out the profiles of people who have qualities you simply can't tolerate - perhaps it's people who smoke; it could be someone who is much older than you, or much younger - it changes from person to person.

To really make the scattershot approach work, you'll have to make yourself respond to a given number of new people everyday. You don't have to turn everything into a serious relationship, of course. You just need to write to them and find out what they are like. The random approach doesn't mean that you have to the date people you don't really like. It only means that you need to open yourself to the possibilities that are out there.

Where online dating websites really excel though is in giving you the tools you need to really not be random. If you have tried the random approach for long enough and you really have a good idea about the exact kind of person who is likely to make you happy, you'll find that using all the filters available to you on a website is likely to be very useful. You can start out writing a profile of yourself that is very specific. If you're someone who doesn't plan to have children at any point, that would certainly narrow your field down. If you will only date atheists, that should narrow it down further. You need to put all of this down in your profile to make sure that you narrow the field down as much as possible and pick the people who are really a good match.
