Is MySpace Safer Than Other Dating Services?

The new phenomenon on the internet is MySpace. Users around the world log in so they can share stories, pictures, videos or messages with each other in a web based forum. The site was not intended as one offering dating services.

But it has become the "it" place to find dates. How and why has this happened? Is it safe? Perhaps more information is in order before you can make that determination.

The answer to this question is in the sheer volume of people who use MySpace and Facebook. Millions of users come into contact with each other on a daily basis. Invariably, these contacts may yield available individuals looking for a date. The entire site has become one big, free online dating hub, but unfortunately there are some serious drawbacks to using a MySpace or Facebook account as a dating medium.

Dating services use different types of screening services and questionnaires before a person searches or places personal ads. This, for some websites, is a precaution to ensure that married individuals looking for an affair are not listed as single. Adult dating personals, on websites such as Adult Friend Finder, do not worry about this step as they feel it is up to each individual to make the decision on the status of the person they are seeking.

Other websites use personality tests in order to narrow down the list of available individuals looking for a date. The number of people using MySpace can seem overwhelming if you are trying to search for a person with similar interests, who is also single. You might want to consider this factor before electing for the free service versus having to pay for a membership.

There is one thing to keep in mind when deciding whether or not to use traditional dating services such as Eharmony or Yahoo versus MySpace and Facebook. MySpace, in particular, allows for strangers to view your webpage unless security precautions are set to block it. If your MySpace page is set to private, then people cannot randomly search for you or view your space unless they are friends.

Even though there are times when finding a partner can seem futile, many people are finding matches. MySpace or Facebook may work for you. If they do not, there are other online dating services that could work.

Just take every posting and personal ad with a grain of salt. You do not have to believe in love at first sight. You can meet the person and discover whether or not they are the one for you.
